IRC Friends
In the period of 1998-1999 I was addicted with ICQ and mIRC. Both just like today’s MSN or Yahoo Messenger which we can interact online with our friends.
IRC in mIRC stands for Internet Relay Chat which M stands for ‘moo’ or MU as explained by Khaled Mardam-Bey. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIRC. it is said that mIRC is very popular which is downloaded 9.129.578 times from CNET’s per October 2007.
Term IRC means a virtual meeting place where people from all over the world can meet and talk and share ideas. To use it, beside the PC or laptop and internet connection we need to install the software which can be downloaded online and free from mirc.com http://www.mirc.com/get.html. The official website also provide instructions how to install mIRC.
The users able to participate in channels, make a channel, or even chat in private window. We can choose nickname and the mIRC will tell us if the nickname is already taken, so we need to change it. Sometimes if the member of channels uses some foul language the operator of the channel can kick them out or ban them. Some channels have bots operator, which is a software application that run automated, simple and repetitive tasks over the internet.
Usually I join the channels for Indonesian or using Indonesian language. We also made a channel #tabok mostly are the members of #bethany. I remember some of my friends mie-ayam, kentang, lontong, sinichi (Medan). One of them is my friend in our office at that time, we were at the different building. :D
It’s a good experience using mIRC. Love those school-old-days, now that it’s not so widely used among our friends I guess I have lost them all.
